Definitely-- I think that blogs, social networking, twitter, facebook, etc. has actually increased how much students write. (Not sure what it says about the quality, meaning, etc.) But, It is basically like journaling (something teachers are always wanting students to do but usually get lots of resistance). It seems once the writing has an audience and is presented in a different form that students buy in.

I wonder what that means for future development of P2L lessons-- maybe students type their responses...

I was listening (I think on NPR) to a reflection about a study that collected info about half a million college students and what they were writing -- the study revealed that today's students write a lot more than students 10-15 years ago. But the style has changed dramatically: since their messages are limited in length, they tend to learn how to communicate the main idea effectively in as few words as possible.

This sounds like an issue we've been struggling with a lot recently in focusing our own writing.
